Riots, also called “service delivery protests”, are an every day occurrence in South Africa wherein mobs resort to violence at the drop of a brick.
Scarier is that often police do not want to deal with mob violence, either through lack of motivation or lack of gear or training or all three.
In such cases it falls to you, other civilians and security companies to protect lives and property.
Protect yourself and your team against thrown objects such as rocks and stones, as well as blunt force objects such as knobkerrie’s and batons when things turn nasty.
From a Psychological point of view it may be advantageous wearing such protective gear as it signals to the rioter/protesters that you are ready to deal with them should they escalate the violence.
